May Zoni Zoom Meetings

Two virtual meetings are planned.  Visit zoom.us to create a free account.  There is no formal agenda; rather this is simply an opportunity to see faces of colleagues, catch-up, and talk a little vball!  Also at these sessions, nominations for the 2020-21 Executive Board can be made.  NOTE: based on the size and desires of the group, breakout rooms may be used to have smaller sub-group conversations after we network together initially.

March 22nd Meeting Canceled

Dear ZONI colleagues,

Today I was informed that the Maine School District 207 has cancelled all reservations to outside groups using their facilities through the end of March.  While some may desire to see the Executive Board seek an alternate location for our scheduled March 22nd meeting, the health and safety of our membership is of top priority to me.  As such, we are cancelling (not postponing) our first membership meeting of the Spring Boys’ season.  Any information that can be shared electronically regarding the board member reports or educational components which were being prepared will be provided via email.  Additionally, I would encourage everyone to take an opportunity to re-read the rules and case books in the coming weeks so that we are prepared for whatever matches will occur in the future.  In the meantime, please practice protective measures and take care.

Respectfully,

Jon Heldmann
ZONI President

2020 Whistle for a Cause Clinic

The 2020 “Whistle for a Cause” volleyball clinic is scheduled for Saturday, February 22nd at Niles West High School, 2701 Oakton Street, Skokie from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  $30 registration at the door. This is a Level 1 and Level 2 IHSA Clinic.

Over the past 18 years, ZONI has contributed over $30,000 to help purchase needed equipment for grossly underfunded volleyball programs and to make donations to families in need of financial assistance in our volleyball community for medical expenses. We have been able to do this through registration fees and donations.

ZONI clinics are known throughout the state as one of the top educational opportunities for officials to learn, discuss and share the knowledge that makes us the best officials that we can be. It’s one day out of the year that we rely on our membership to step forward and prove to be the leaders that we aspire to be.

Beginners (0-1 years), Intermediate (1-3 years) will be led by experienced clinicians on the essentials of officiating.  Intermediate and veteran officials will be choosing from topics such as:

– Video review and discussion

– “You make the call” – scenarios that you can submit at the clinic

– Communication

– Professionalism and how it can help you be the best you can be

– Tricks of the trade

– R2’ing at your best

– Preparation – before and after arrival
